Vegan; it seems like a good idea . . .
. . . at 11:32 pm. Instead of being in bed sleeping, which I should have been an hour ago, I decided to start re-reading Skinny Bitch (which I'm sure most of the females have heard of). The first time I read it I decided to switch to brown carbs and try to eat a peice of fruit every morning before I started my real meals for the day. While I was moved on the chapter about meat before (actually, i believe the chapter might be titled something more along the lines of 'Decomposing Flesh' but I'm too lazy to go look), particularly by the part about the male chicks being thrown in the garbage, I still thought to myself nahh, I don't really eat meat too much but I do enjoy it, and I LOVE cheese. I could never be a Vegan as the book suggests. However, this time there was a variable that effected my outlook. What might this difference be, you ask? His name is chat and he was sitting 4 feet to the left of me. I thought, I love this little guy so much, how can I feel okay with eating other animals? So I made the decision right then and there to try going Vegan for a month. Now I'm not saying it won't be hard. I am a girl who loves her bacon and her cheese, and just today I had chicken chili verde for lunch and Pork Gyoza for dinner, but in weighing the health benefits, not to mention the guilt I might now feel while ingesting an animal, I have decided I'm going to give this thing a shot and THIS will be my forum for discussion, whether anyone reads it or not lol. I'm still torn on whether to include fish in my purge, but I will be posting my progress on this page and welcome anyone who wants to comment, or even join me. Let the games begin!

Hey, I totally support your efforts babe. If you want I can whip up some seitan (awesome meat supplement for you) and send it off to you some time this week. Most people think veganism is along the same lines as self-flagellation in terms of what you are supposed to eat, but it totally doesn't have to be. Stock up on leafy greens! They're a secret source of calcium! I can also send you some very good vegan recipes and tips for making your own almond milk :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck!

I was actually looking into this also. I plan on getting the Alicia Silverstone book. The kind diet. There is a website. Also, I think I can some restaurant names for you. That way we can try together, you know here and there. Good luck, I will try to support you any way that I can
ReplyDeleteLL- XOXO
Hey guys,
ReplyDeleteYea we are gonna have to check out some Vegan Restaurants. Truth be told, I'm gonna give Vegan a go for this month, but I don't know if I can live without cheese. I mean, no Saag Paneer? No FONDUE!!! Oh helllll no, but one month it is, and then its FONDUE TIME!!! lmao Vegetarian on the other hand is easy for me. Amanda, I'd love any recipes you can offer, and Luci, lets check some places out :)
So... I would say that I can identify with your story, except for the fact that I'm pretty sure I would have no problem petting a cow with one hand while eating a burger in the other. As a matter of fact, growing up in DR, my next door neighbor owned chickens. Chickens I would watch him beat with a belt until they died the stick them in boiling water to remove the feathers. We would then have that chicken for lunch. True story.
ReplyDeleteNow, whatever the reason for quitting meat may be, I think Vegans have every right to partake in those eating habits. But as far as me joining them/you, maybe in the next life (when I come back as NOT me. LOL) I wouldn't trade the flavorful and pleasurable moments I've had eating meat for anything in the world.

PS: No offense. lol
